lessons from looking around Bury

In AD870 King Edmunds was captured by the Danes and killed because he refused to denounce his Christian faith.

The Bible says,
“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5.7-8

In the sight of God we are all sinners, but God sent his Son to bear the punishment that we deserve, so that we might be saved.

In 1533 Mary Tudor, sister of Henry V111 was buried in the Abbey but her body was later removed to St Mary’s.

For the wages of sin is death….(we deserve to die because of our sinful nature)
…..But the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Romans 6.23

God has made a way so that you can be saved and receive the gift of everlasting life, because He loves YOU more than words can say.

Salvation is for everyone...

In 1912, the Abbey Gardens were officially made a free park, open for all the public.

The Bible says,
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10.13

God’s way of salvation is for everyone, regardless of who we are!

The Apostle Peter said in the Bible,
“I perceive that God is no respecter of persons” Acts 10.34

The question was once asked in the Bible,
“What must I do to be saved?”
The answer from the Apostle Paul was simple
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
and thou shalt be saved.”

Acts 16.31

We have a decision to make; God tells us very clearly that there is only one way to heaven. “The Lord Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life no man cometh unto the father but by me”. If we choose to reject all that God has done for us, then sadly that means we will be punished for our sins.
But God commands all men everywhere to repent. Because God is holy we need to admit before him that we have done wrong, and he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” 1 John 1.9
The way of salvation is so simple “if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10.9

Where will you spend eternity? Have you trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ?

If you would like to hear more, you are welcome every Sunday at 6:30.
